What are the benefits of technology in education?
In the reading there were lots of benefits mention for technology in education. The ones that were mentioned were Instructional Effectiveness, Active Learning, Critical Thinking, Individualization, Motivation, Flexibility for Students with Special Needs, Cooperative Learning, Communication Skills, Multisensory Delivery, and Multicultural Education. There are a few that I would like to go over with a little more detail.
Active Learning - By using technology this can help create the involvement of students in the learning process. Instead of reading they can use technology to experience the what they are learning with a more hands on experience. What they are learning can become more important to the students instead of the passive learning. Studies have shown that by using active learning through computers students are learning and they noticing an increase in logical thinking, problem-solving skills, and show better scores on testing.
Individualization - Technology allow students to feel a sense of individualization. This allows all students to learn at their own pace. It helps students to express and to interact in a nonthreatening atmosphere.
Motivation - Technology not only will motivate students but it can continue to help motivate teachers. Finding a way to motivate students can be difficult at times, but by using technology this will help the students be more motivated to learn the material they are learning. It helps the students to be more successful and gain more confidence along with motivation.
These were the three benefits that really stuck out to me as to why technology can benefit students in schools.

I agree with you that technology helps to motivate students and teachers. Students today are exposed to so much in the way of computers, cell phones, the internet and games that expecting them to sit and listen to a lecture and take notes has got to be a switch from the way they are use to communicating.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you said about active learning. Technology provides the wonderful means of allowing students to be actively participating in their learning experience. It gives students a way to do things for themselves and discover their strengths and weaknesses in their thinking processes.
ReplyDeleteI like what you said about individualization. I am one of those students that does prefer to work at my own pace. I just do better overall. I also see individualization as a creative way for students to express themselves. If you have students doing projects like we are doing, they can really let their likes show up in their work. Even if they can't paint a single stroke.
ReplyDeleteHands on learning really aids in student retention of knowledge. By using technology in classrooms allows for multiple ways of learning. This really helps students with disabilities because it offers so many different ways of learning. Also some students feel threatened with one on one contact with an adult, by using computers this takes that intimidation factor out of the equation
